If you enjoy catching fish or enjoy eating fresh fish, you may be faced with needing to descale it. The scales are the tough exterior of the skin and are found on many sea fish and freshwater fish. These include salmon, trout, whitefish, sea bass, cod, haddock, red mullet, etc. You either have to remove the whole skin or descale the fish before cooking. This Fish Descaler is so efficient that you are advised to hold the fish inside a bag to prevent the scales flying everywhere. |

With many more local organic food markets appearing, the opportunity to buy really fresh fish from its local source has never been better. However, with many fish it is necessary to remove either the scales or the whole skin from the fish, before cooking. Ideally, the skin is left intact as it holds the fish together while cooking and also has a lot of taste. Our Fish Descaler has a series of small cylindrical blades which are rubbed over the fish scales and remove them without damaging the fish skin. As the scales can fly everywhere, it is recommended that the descaling is done in a polythene or carrier bag. This is a far safer and speedier method of descaling that using the back of a knife.
